Vermont 11-6 and 5-4 Wins On July 4th

BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters won a pair of Future League games vs. the Worcester Bravehearts on Saturday afternoon after scoring seven runs in the third and four times in the sixth of an 11-6 win in the opener before James Henshon RBI triple/walkoff run on throwing error for 5-4, eight-inning victory in nightcap on Delta Dental Diamond at Centennial Field.Â
Worcester had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth of the scheduled seven-inning contest on a pair of fly outs to plate the placed runner at second base to start extra innings. In the bottom of eighth with pinch runner Tyler Wiltsey (Rutgers) at second, Henshon (Tufts) hit a flyball fair into the rightfield corner to score Wiltsey with the tying run. As Henshon pulled into third with a triple, the throw from the middle of the infield sailed past third allowing him to score walkoff run.
In the opener, the completion of a suspended game from June 10th, the Lake Monsters sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third inning and scored seven times on just two hits (both by Elias Huber), two errors, four walks and a hit batter. Huber’s (Arizona Western) second hit was a two-run single for a 7-0 Vermont lead.
Worcester scored five times in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to two, but Vermont added four more runs in the bottom of the inning including a Travis Stroh (CVU/Dayton) two-run single for a 9-5 advantage. Keeler Vogt (Babson) tossed three scoreless innings before being charged with all five runs in the Worcester sixth inning for the win.
