Vermont Topples Nashua 9-6 On Thursday

BURLINGTON, VT  – Jack Fitzgerald went 4-for-5 with a pair of two-run homers and a two-run double for a six-RBI night to help lead the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 9-6 Futures League victory over the Nashua Silver Knights Thursday night on Delta Dental Diamond at Centennial Field. 

With Vermont leading 3-1, Fitzgerald (Montevallo) smacked a two-run homer to rightfield in the bottom of the fifth inning and then lined a two-run double down the rightfield line in the sixth inning for a 7-1 Lake Monsters advantage.

Nashua fought their way back into the game with a five-run seventh to cut its deficit to one, but Fitzgerald gave the Lake Monsters some breathing room in the eighth with a towering two-run homer to leftfield. Both home runs were measured at 344-feet. 

Chester, Vermont’s Kaiden McCarthy (Vermont Academy), projected to go in the early rounds of the 2026 Major League draft, retired the first six batters he faced in the fifth and sixth innings before allowing an infield single and a pair of walks in the seventh.
