BURLINGTON, VT — The Futures League regular-season finale between the Vermont Lake Monsters and Nashua Silver Knights Sunday evening at historic Centennial Field was canceled due to lightning and then rain in the bottom of the first inning.

After a leadoff walk and fielding error in the bottom of the first, the game was halted due to lightning in the area. About 30 minutes later rain started falling steadily and the tarp was put on the field and with the rain falling harder the decision was made to cancel.

The Lake Monsters finish their fourth FCBL regular-season with a 29-26 record and have made the playoffs in each of the four years in the Future League.

Seeding for the 2024 Futures League playoffs had been decided earlier in the day with New Britain’s 9-6 victory over Westfield. The best-of-three semifinal will start on Monday with #3 New Britain playing at #2 Westfield and #4 Vermont at #1 Norwich.

The second game of each series will be played on Tuesday, including the Lake Monsters hosting Norwich 6:35pm at historic Centennial Field. Fans with tickets for Sunday’s game can exchange them for a ticket to Tuesday’s playoff game.
