BURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont Lake Monsters and Kinney Drugs are excited to announce they will be hosting a scholarship competition for graduating high school senior student athletes, with two (2) scholarships of one thousand dollars ($1,000) awarded to one male and one female student athlete from a Vermont High School.
Awards will be judged on several criteria including examples of leadership, community service, and extracurricular activities. The student must include two letters of recommendation and a letter of acceptance from the institution they plan on attending. Applications must be completed and returned to the Vermont Lake Monsters by July 1, 2024. The Vermont Lake Monsters and Kinney Drugs will review the applications and choose one male and one female winner, which will be announced at the Lake Monsters July 31, 2024 home game.
“Way back in 1903, Burt Kinney knew that engagement was crucial to the health of any community” said Kinney Drugs President John Marraffa, R.Ph. “And Burt was well-known for participating actively and generously in his own village – and in others as Kinney Drugs grew. Engagement remains a vital practice at our company even now, 120 years later!”
“That’s why we’re especially pleased to help recognize young student-athletes for being good citizens and helping their communities prosper. We know that they juggle a lot of responsibilities with school, athletics, and perhaps work too!”
Marraffa added “‘Taking that extra time and effort to make a difference for the organizations and causes that matter to them is both impressive and inspirational. We hope that this recognition will encourage them to continue a lifelong journey of service.”
Students eligible for this competition must be graduating seniors from an accredited public or private high school within the State of Vermont and must also be a resident of Vermont. Scholarship awards must be applied towards any 2-4 year college or university, vocational or technical education institution or program.
Marraffa added “‘Taking that extra time and effort to make a difference for the organizations and causes that matter to them is both impressive and inspirational. We hope that this recognition will encourage them to continue a lifelong journey of service.”
